Passive dual-slot/fhfl cards run hot or throttle in a normal desktop; some need EPS-12V 8-pin (not PCIe 8-pin) and a ReBAR/Above-4G-capable BIOS.

Root cause

These parts are designed for front-to-back server airflow and vendor power delivery, not a consumer chassis.

Workaround

3D-printed or aftermarket shroud + high-static fan ($30-40); verify the PSU supplies EPS-12V; enable Above-4G/ReBAR in BIOS.
