AOSP NNAPI driver implementation best practices carries the notice: 'Deprecated: Starting in Android 15, the NNAPI (NDK API) is deprecated. The Neural Networks HAL interface continues to be supported. For more information, see the NNAPI Migration Guide.' The AOSP NNAPI Runtime module page carries the same deprecation. The NDK NNAPI Migration Guide states 'The Neural Networks API (NNAPI) is deprecated in Android 15' and gives migration paths to TensorFlow Lite in Play Services (aka LiteRT Play Services) and AICore. Corollary from the LiteRT repo, google-ai-edge/LiteRT issue 3936: 'LiteRT in Google Play Services C/C++ only provides the GPU and XNNPACK delegates at the moment. NNAPI has been deprecated as of Android 15.' This is the single most important hardware fact in the on-device niche and it is a NEGATIVE: the vendor-neutral Android acceleration API is being retired in favour of Google-specific Play Services delegates and AICore.
