notes
Primary dataset on the queue that gates new power, which is the constraint that binds when chip supply is available. Covers all 7 US ISO/RTOs plus 50 non-ISO balancing areas, ~98% of installed US generating capacity. Key figures through end of 2025: over 2,060 GW of total generation AND STORAGE capacity actively seeking grid connection; ~8,200 active projects comprising 1,312 GW of generation and ~749 GW of storage; 549 GW already holding a draft or executed interconnection agreement but not yet at commercial operation; median duration from interconnection request to commercial operation exceeded 5 YEARS for projects built in 2025; only 13% of capacity that requested interconnection in 2000-2020 had reached commercial operation by end of 2025, with 75% withdrawn and 10% still active. Data file licensed CC BY 4.0. NOTE the dataset explicitly EXCLUDES load interconnection requests and behind-the-meter projects, so it bounds GENERATION-side power availability, not the separate and often faster load-connection queue that a datacentre actually waits on.
