notes
OCP MX specification. Defines the microscaling block-scaled formats: MXFP4 (E2M1 elements, E8M0 power-of-two scale per 32-element block), MXFP6 (E3M2/E2M3), MXFP8 (E4M3/E5M2). The key distinction from NVFP4: MX uses power-of-two E8M0 scales (no fractional scales), NVFP4 uses E4M3 fractional scales per 16 elements plus a per-tensor FP32 global scale. MX is an open standard; NVFP4 is NVIDIA-proprietary. Both are W4A4 on Blackwell.
