VENUE VERIFIED, NOT ASSUMED: exact title 'Cascade Speculative Drafting for Even Faster LLM Inference' appears in the NeurIPS 2024 conference-track index (papers.nips.cc/paper_files/paper/2024, hash 9cb5b083ba4f5ca6bd05dd307a2fb354) with the author list Ziyi Chen, Xiaocong Yang, Jiacheng Lin, Chenkai Sun, Kevin Chen-Chuan Chang, Jie Huang, matching the arXiv API author list for 2312.11462 exactly. The arXiv comment field says 'NeurIPS 2024' and is corroborated rather than trusted. arXiv v1 2023-12-18, so the paper predates its 2024 publication by a year - it is filed under year 2024 (the venue year) and this is worth knowing if the reader is sorting by recency of idea versus recency of publication. WHY IT IS STILL A GAP IN 2026: the repo already holds Medusa, EAGLE/EAGLE-2/EAGLE-3, n-gram/Sequoia, REST, Ouroboros, RSD, LayerSkip, Lookahead, MagicDec and SpecInfer, and every one of those attacks ACCEPTANCE RATE or verification. Cascade Speculative Drafting attacks the DRAFT LATENCY of the draft model instead, which is a different term in the repo's own speculative cost model (flops/fct-spec-decoding-cost-model-break-even): T_draft = max(2*P_d/BW, 2*k*P_d/PEAK). When the draft is a small neural model streamed from HBM at low batch, that first term dominates, and no amount of raising acceptance rate fixes it. Adoption is research-only: no upstream engine implements a horizontal/vertical drafting cascade; vLLM and SGLang implement tree-verification scheduling, which descends from SpecInfer, not from this.
