Problem
Inference-time scaling makes models larger and slower to serve, so the cost of reasoning is paid on every single token of every request - constant per-token cost is the thing worth buying.
Mechanism
Replaces the MAJORITY OF SELF-ATTENTION LAYERS with MAMBA layers that perform constant computation and require constant memory per generated token, keeping a minority of attention layers for the recall that pure SSMs lose. Three additional cost reductions: MINI PUZZLE, a new compression technique combining PRUNING AND DISTILLATION, produces Nemotron-H-47B-Base from the 56B model; and an FP8-BASED TRAINING RECIPE that reaches parity with BF16 training, so the 56B model's accuracy is not being traded for compute savings in a hidden way. Base checkpoints are released with Hugging Face and NeMo support.
Speedup reported
Paper's own claim: better-or-on-par accuracy than similarly-sized open models (Qwen2.5-7B/72B, Llama-3.1-8B/70B) while being UP TO 3x FASTER AT INFERENCE; Nemotron-H-47B-Base reaches similar accuracy to the 56B model at 20% faster inference. The 3x is a per-token-cost claim against same-size dense Transformers and does not carry to throughput at large batch, because the repo's own ssm-decode-cost-o1-vs-attention-on record shows hybrid/SSM decode is COMPUTE-bound at batch 1 rather than memory-bound - so the constant-state advantage that gives the per-token win is partly given back once the decode GEMM is large enough.

VENUE: arxiv-preprint WITH venue_track 'unknown'. arXiv 2504.03624's comment field is EMPTY and there is no journal_ref. OpenReview holds only the arXiv deposit (venue 'CoRR 2025') plus one archive record whose venue is null - an archive record with a null venue is not a venue claim and must not be read as one. No conference decision record exists for this title. NVIDIA-authored; the several-hundred-author list is truncated in the authors array to the first five by arXiv order rather than fabricated. WHY IT IS A GAP: the repo's SSM/hybrid cluster is Jamba, Jamba-1.5, Zamba, RecurrentGemma/Griffin, Kimi Linear, Kimi K2's sibling territory, MiniMax-01/M1, Gated DeltaNet, Based, Mamba-2/Transformers-are-SSMs and the two diffusion records. Nemotron-H is the NVIDIA entry and it is the one that ships with BOTH a pruning-distillation compression step AND an FP8 training recipe, which is the combination a deployment reader cannot otherwise assemble from the repo's separate quantization records. Adoption in-upstream-engine on a concrete basis: base checkpoints are released with Hugging Face and NVIDIA NeMo support, both of which this repo tracks, so the constant-state advantage has a real serving path rather than being a paper-only claim. THE COST TRADE a deployment reader must not miss: the repo already documents that SSM state memory scales with BATCH (Nemotron-H's own architecture is worked through in flops/ssm-decode-cost-o1-vs-attention-on, which computes 25.8 GiB of state at batch 256 for a Nemotron-H-shaped model). Up to 3x faster at inference is a low-batch claim. VENUE RE-CHECKED 2026-10-05 (wave 6, agent w6-papers) - STILL NO VENUE, and the wave that could not verify this is now three waves old, so the negative is re-run rather than inherited. Wave 4 reached the same answer from the OpenReview index; this pass adds two corpora it did not sweep. ACL Anthology search for this title returns no paper page of its own - only unrelated PDFs that CITE it, which is the strongest available evidence that no ACL-family proceedings entry exists. Crossref bibliographic query for the exact title returns no proceedings-article or journal-article of this paper either; the hits are other papers on adjacent topics (a different elastic KV paper, a different memory-disaggregated caching system, a different concurrent-LoRA serving system), none of them this work. So the answer is arxiv-preprint with venue_track 'unknown', and it is a POSITIVE finding rather than an unresearched gap: this is a widely cited paper with no peer-reviewed venue, which is a fact about the literature that a reader needs to know. The claim that matters for a deployment reader is the one already in the record above - base checkpoints are released with Hugging Face and NVIDIA NeMo support, so the constant-state advantage has a real serving path regardless of the paper's publication status. arxiv_id and every other field unchanged; only `updated` moved, because `updated` is the date the record was last verified against its sources.
